JACKSON, Miss. – Making his PGA Tour debut at the Sanderson Farms Championship, former Arkansas men’s golf All-American Sebastian Cappelen showed no signs of nerves on Thursday, shooting a seven-under 65 to finish the day as the first round leader.

The attention-grabbing pro debut isn’t new for Cappelen, who won the Air Capital Classic last year in his debut on the Web.com Tour. Cappelen went on to finish 26th in the Web.com Tour money rankings, just one spot from earning his PGA Tour card, but has full exempt status on the tour this year.

Cappelen received a sponsor exemption into the Sanderson Farms Championship and opened his round with a bogey on his first hole. That would be Cappelen’s only mistake of the day, responding with three birdies over his next five holes en route to a total of eight on the day and a two-stroke lead.

A seven-time All-American over his four years as a Razorback, Cappelen will begin his second round on Friday at 12:44 p.m. Live coverage of the second round can be found on the Golf Channel in the afternoon.

Cappelen nearly made the top 25 regular season money list on the Web.com Tour in 2014 despite playing in just 11 events. Cappelen started off his professional career with a bang in June, winning the Air Capital Classic with a score of 18-under par that earned him a spot on the Web.com Tour through 2015.

Former Razorback David Lingmerth isn’t in this week’s field at the Sanderson Farms Championship. Lingmerth has opened his third season on the PGA Tour with top 20s in two of the first four events to sit in a tie for 22nd in the early FedExCup standings.
