Randall Breaks School Record On Opening Night

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 6 University of Arkansas men’s track and field team opened its outdoor season Friday evening with a school-record performance by Devin Randall in the hammer throw. After Friday’s hammer throw, the rest of the Arkansas Spring Invitational gets going Saturday with field events at 10:30 a.m. (CT) and running starting at 1:30 p.m. Gates open for the public at 9:30 a.m.

Competing in just the second hammer event of his collegiate career, Randall posted a best of 49.64m/162-10 in a runner-up finish at John McDonnell Field. He surpassed the previous mark of 162-8 set by Brandon Heeger in 2010. Randall will be in action Saturday with scheduled double duty in the shot put and discus.

Indoor All-Americans Kenzo Cotton, Andrew Irwin and Marqueze Washington are scheduled to make their outdoor debuts Saturday afternoon, along with the team’s 4×100- and 4×400-meter relays. Based on its efforts during the cross country and indoor track and field seasons, Arkansas enters the outdoor campaign in fifth place in the John McDonnell Program of the Year standings.

The Arkansas Spring Invitational is the first of three home events during the outdoor season with the team also set to host the John McDonnell Invitational (April 10-11) and Arkansas Twilight (May 1).
