Razorback Invitational Opens 2016 Home Schedule

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – After two road trips to begin the season, the University of Arkansas softball returns to Fayetteville for its home opener by hosting the Razorback Invitational at Bogle Park. The two-day event, running Saturday and Sunday, will also include Drake and UMKC. The Razorbacks enter the weekend having won four of their last five games. Arkansas’ first game is set for Saturday at 12:30 p.m. (CT).

The Razorbacks’ two games Saturday will be streamed live on the SEC Network+ and through the WatchESPN app. Live stats will also be available for all games at ArkansasRazorbacks.com. Arkansas (5-5) holds a combined 18-5 advantage in the program’s all-time series against Drake and UMKC. General admission is $5 for adults while UA students (with valid ID) and fans 17 years and younger receive free admission.

Arkansas scored 38 runs during last weekend’s Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City, Calif. Behind an offensive outburst, the Razorbacks scored a season-high 12 runs in games against Binghamton and Central Michigan. The team was bolstered by 11 home runs at the tournament, five from California natives Nicole Schroeder and Ashley Diaz. With her solo shot against Army West Point, Schroeder moved into a tie for 10th place in program history with her 17th career home run.

Senior Stephanie Canfield is coming off a weekend in California in which she hit .667 with 10 hits, seven runs and five RBI. Along with becoming the program’s all-time triples leader, she moved into Arkansas’ top-10 hits list with a base hit against George Washington. Canfield has at least one hit in each game this season and enters the game tied for eighth in the SEC with her team-leading .500 batting average.

The Razorback Invitational marks the beginning of an 11-game home stand that also includes next weekend’s Wooo Pig Classic and midweek games against Oklahoma State and Missouri State. Arkansas’ SEC home opener is set for March 25-27 with a series against No. 17 Kentucky.
