Razorback Golfers Finish in Fourth Place at Callaway Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas men’s golf team shot an even-par 288 in the final round Tuesday to claim fourth place at the USD Callaway Invitational in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. The result is Arkansas’ fifth top-five finish in seven events played this season. The Razorbacks tallied an 11-over-par 875 total. They were led by junior Andrew Landry who finished in fifth place in the individual standings after carding a two-under-par 214.

Landry posted an even-par 72 over the final 18 holes of competition to earn his first top-five result of the season and seventh of his career. In seven events played this season, the Razorback junior has finished in the top ten on five occasions.

Freshman Sam Chavez earned the first top-20 result of his career. He fired a one-under-par 71 in the final round to climb 14 spots on the leaderboard on the final day. Chavez tied with four other golfers at 20th place with a three-round total of 222 (+6). David Lingmerth rebounded from a shaky second round to card a 71 during Tuesday’s final 18 holes. His final-round score gave the sophomore a ten-over-par 226 and a 36th-place finish, a 23-spot jump from where he started the day.

The fourth finisher for UA was Jason Turner who shot a 13-over-par 229 and ended the tournament in a tie for 48th place among a group of seven golfers. Will Osborne rounded out the Razorback line-up with a share of 58th place. The Arkansas junior struggled Tuesday with a final-round 85 and finished with a 15-over-par 231 score.

The team from Wichita State maintained its day-one lead to capture the tournament crown. The Shockers carded an 11-under-par 853 to finish eight shots ahead of second-place San Diego. Dustin Garza of Wichita State won the individual title with a six-under-par 210.
