Razorbacks begin outdoor season at site of 2019 NCAA title

Following a weekend that included a pair of NCAA Championship events, indoor and cross country, in which the Razorbacks were the defending champions, Arkansas embarks on its NCAA Outdoor title defense by starting its campaign at the site of UA’s 2019 national title in Austin, Texas.

Two home meets are on the Razorbacks 2021 outdoor schedule, the John McDonnell Invitational (April 16-17) and the Arkansas Twilight (May 7). Information on limited fan attendance at John McDonnell Field will be announced in the coming weeks.

After missing the entire 2020 outdoor campaign due to the covid pandemic, Arkansas will return a number of seniors who didn’t have indoor eligibility remaining, but still have an outdoor season to contest.

The Razorbacks open the outdoor season at the Texas Relays (March 25-27), which has seen adjustments from previous versions of the meet to account for recent covid protocol. Then a trip to Eugene, Oregon, follows for the Arkansas distance crew competing at the Hayward Premiere (April 2-3).

In preparation for SEC Championships (May 13-15) and NCAA West Preliminary round (May 27-29) being held in College Station, Texas, this spring, the Razorbacks will compete in the Texas A&M Invite (April 9-10). Then Arkansas travels to Gainesville, Florida for the Tom Jones Invitational (April 16-17).

On the weekend between the pair of Razorback home meets, most of the team will compete in the LSU Invitational (May 1) at Baton Rouge while UA distance runners are scheduled for the Fresno State Distance Carnival (April 30) in Fresno, California.

The NCAA Outdoor Championships will be hosted by the University of Oregon from June 9-12 in the new Hayward Field.
