No. 2 Razorbacks Travel To NCAA Championships

NCAA Championship Notes

FAYETTEVILLE — The second-ranked University of Arkansas women’s golf team travels to Stillwater, Oklahoma, for the 2018 NCAA Championship at Karsten Creek Golf Course May 18-23.

Arkansas is making the program’s ninth NCAA team appearance and the Razorbacks are paced by the No. 1 collegiate player in Maria Fassi. Fassi moved into the top spot after leading Arkansas to the program’s first NCAA Regional Championship. She earned medalist honors as well winning her seventh title this year.

The balance in the lineup has been a key to Arkansas’ success this season. Fassi leads the Razorbacks with a 69.67 stroke average with junior Dylan Kim and senior Alana Uriell close behind at 71.37 and 71.43, respectively.

Kaylee Benton and Cara Gorlei round out the traveling five this week. Benton won the 18th hole in match play securing the program’s first Southeastern Conference title in April. She had a strong performance at the NCAA Austin Regional as well with a tie for fourth place.

Gorlei has counted 70 birdies on the year and played 260 par holes. She has set personal bests for low round, score versus par and stroke average this season. She advanced to the NCAA Championship last year as an individual.
