Razorbacks Open Season At Cowboy Duals

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas’ women’s cross country team will begin its season on Thursday, Sept. 1 in Stillwater, Oklahoma, competing in the Cowboy Duals.

The Razorbacks head into a new year ranked No. 1 in the South Central region and No. 11 in the country, announced by the USTFCCCA earlier this week.

Arkansas completed its 2015 season as Southeastern Conference and NCAA Regional champions along with a ninth-place finish at the NCAA Championships. Among the top performers from last year are 2016 returners sophomore Devin Clark, senior Regan Ward and junior Kelsey Schrader who finished 48th, 103rd, and 111th at the national meet, respectively.

Tontitown native Valerie Reina is also primed to be a fixture in the top five, joining Clark, Schrader and Ward as returning All-SEC honorees.

Head coach Lance Harter will add new talent to the mix with arguably the best 2016 recruiting class in the country.

Abby Gray, Madeleine Reed and Taylor Werner — individual and team state champions during their high school years — will look to build upon Arkansas’ tradition of excellence during their first year donning cardinal red and white.

The trio will be joined in their efforts by South African talent Carina Viljoen who boasts a 3,000 meter PR of 9 minutes, 48.22 seconds.

Arkansas will race Oklahoma, Witchita State, Tulsa, and hosts Oklahoma State on Thursday morning with the first race beginning at 8 a.m. CST.
