Razorbacks Set for Home Opener Tuesday Against Oral Roberts

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.– Arkansas opens their 2006 home schedule Tuesday as they host a doubleheader with Oral Roberts at the Dills Indoor Tennis Center on the University of Arkansas campus.

Play is set to begin at 1 p.m., with the ladder match tentatively slated for a 5 p.m. first serve.

The Razorbacks are fresh off winning the ITA Central Region Indoor Championship last weekend in Tulsa, Okla. The Hogs defeated Wichita St., Tulsa and Oklahoma, each by a 4-0 margin, en route to the title. The win guaranteed UA a spot in the ITA National Indoors Feb. 17-20 in Seattle, Wash.

“We’re very excited to be back on the courts after a great weekend,” Razorback Coach Robert Cox said, “Now, we’ve got to be ready to bounce back on Tuesday.”

Since 1985, Arkansas leads the series with Oral Roberts, 5-0. UA and ORU last met in 2004, with the Hogs sweeping a doubleheader with the Golden Eagles.

The Razorback lineup did not change over the weekend in Tulsa, but Cox said he expects more Hogs to get a chance with two matches against ORU.

The weekend’s lineup featured seniors Adrians Zguns, Matt Roberts and Rohan Gajjar in the top three spots, respectively. Freshman Blake Strode played in the No. 4 slot, with redshirt freshman Colin Mascall and sophomore Michael Jung competing in the bottom two positions.

Junior Andrei Nicoara, sophomore Jimmy Khougassian, redshirt freshmen Braden Burks and Brian Yanulis, and freshman Austin King should all see action in Tuesday’s matches.

Tuesday’s home opener is the first of 12 home matches for the Razorbacks, who played 15 road matches in 2005.

The Dills Indoor Tennis Center is located across from Bud Walton Arena on Razorback Road.
