Razorbacks top Kansas in exhibition

FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas’ soccer team continued its spring exhibition season over the weekend and recorded a 2-0 victory over Kansas at Razorback Field.

The Razorbacks scored twice in the second half. Ally Atkins scored from 25 yards out in the top corner of the net and the other score came on a crossing pass mishandled by a Kansas defender and knocked into the Jayhawk goal.

"I was particularly pleased with the way the team came out to redeem themselves after a mediocre performance at Oklahoma State three weeks ago," head coach Erin Aubry said, referring to her team’s 2-0 loss in Stillwater on March 13. "We have been focusing on our speed of play all spring and we showed remarkable improvement in that area. We are striving for the next level and that requires thinking faster so we can move the ball faster. You could certainly see that progress today."

Goalkeeper Britni Williams played the first half for Arkansas with Kendal Winston and Brittany Hudson splitting time in the second and combining for the shutout.

"Defensively, I thought our entire backline and defensive center-midfielders, including Camille Flores, were fantastic," Aubry said. "We were extremely physical and stepped in well to pick off Kansas’ forward passes. Our team was a complete unit and that’s fun to see."

Following the match, Arkansas’ coaching staff and student-athletes worked with area youth during a free clinic on the field.

Arkansas continues its spring season this week when the Razorbacks travel to Fort Worth, Texas, for two games. The Razorbacks play at TCU Saturday at 1 p.m. and face Texas Tech at TCU at 4 p.m.

Aubry’s team closes the spring on April 17 with the UA Alumni match at Razorback Field at noon.
