Razorbacks Travel to Midland and South Carolina Tournaments

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas men’s tennis team will compete in two tournaments this weekend sending players to the Midland Invitational in Midland, Texas and the South Carolina Invitational in Columbia, S.C. Eleven Razorback netters will be in action beginning Friday.

At the Midland Invitational, Colin Mascall and Blake Strode will be looking to defend the title they won at the event in 2006. The two Razorbacks will also compete individually in the singles draw. Strode reached the finals of the event last year. Redshirt freshman Tyler Tarnasky is also scheduled to participate in the singles draw.

Eight members of the team will compete in Columbia at the South Carolina Invitational, including four players making their first appearances of the fall season. All of the players will compete in singles and doubles action.

Dmitry Lebedev is making his second appearance of the season and will take on Hans Spangenberg of UAB in the first round of the A-1 singles competition. In doubles, he will team with freshman Nick Spinazze in the B-1 draw and play Thomas Stoddard and David Wolff of host-team South Carolina. Spinazze is playing in his first event of the season.

Sophomore Bradwin Williams has accumulated a 4-1 record and will be playing in his third event of the season. He will take on Paul Bishop of Armstrong State in the A/B singles draw. Williams could meet Spinazze, who opens against Louisville’s Kenneth Nordheim, in the semifinals of that draw.

In his lone appearance of the season, Jorge Villanueva was 3-0 at the Navy Invitational. His first-round opponent in the B-2 flight will be The Citadel’s Alberto Diaz. Chris Nott, also playing in his second event of the season, will play Miguel Muguruza of Georgia Tech in the first round of the A-2 singles draw.

Along with Spinazze, Branden Joost, Connor Smith and Drew Sosebee will be playing in their first tournaments of the 2007-08 season.
