Razorbacks Turn Focus to South Carolina

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas football team began preparations for Steve Spurrier’s South Carolina Gamecocks on Tuesday in a 90-minute workout in full pads.

The 13th-ranked Hogs split their workout time between the outdoor practice fields where the temperatures that hovered in the mid-40s and inside the Willard and Pat Walker Pavilion.

“We had a good start today on South Carolina,” Arkansas head coach Houston Nutt said. “We came inside after the kicking and it was good to see everyone back out here.”

Several Hogs returned to practice on Tuesday in different capacities. Darius Vinnett and Cedric Washington fully participated in practice, while All-American linebacker Sam Olajubutu stretched and went through some light running. Marcus Harrison was also back out on the practice field, but not a full speed.

“It was good to see Darius Vinnett and Cedric Washington back out here,” Nutt said. “Sam (Olajubutu) put on his pads, watched and did some running. Hopefully he can get a little bit (of practice) in tomorrow and then all of it on Thursday.

“It is always good to see your captain out (back at practice). He is guy that has made a lot of plays and made a lot of tackles.”

Arkansas puts its 4-0 Southeastern Conference record on the line with a road trip to South Carolina this weekend and a good week of practice is vital for the Razorbacks.

“They had good focus (at practice today),” Nutt said. It means a lot to them, especially the seniors. They have been doing the best job we have had in a long time as far as leadership.”
