Red-White games set for Friday

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas men’s and women’s basketball teams will participate in their annual red-white games this Friday, Oct. 23, at Bud Walton Arena. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for the fan-friendly event which includes autograph signings, competitions as well as the men’s and women’s red-white scrimmages. There is no admission charge to the 2009 event.

Doors to Bud Walton Arena are slated to open at 5:30 p.m. with autograph sessions for both the men’s and women’s basketball teams on the concourse scheduled for 6 p.m. Members of both squads will be positioned around the main concourse of Bud Walton Arena and will be available for one hour before the teams must begin their preparations.

"I really enjoy the atmosphere that surrounds the Red-White game," Arkansas head coach John Pelphrey said. "The passion of the Razorback fans is tremendous and this is a great opportunity for us to connect to that fan base. I’m looking forward to another great year with this event."

The women’s red-white game begins at 7:30 p.m. and will be two abbreviated halves with an intermission. Following the women’s game there will be a three-point shooting contest, hot-spot competition and fan game before the men’s team takes the court at 8:30 for their warm-up. The men’s game will begin at 8:45 p.m.

"We are all excited about the Red-White scrimmage," Collen said. "As coaches, we want to find out what the team looks like in a scrimmage in front of a crowd. The players just want to play."
