Schulte second after first round action

Jump to first round results FRANKLIN, Tenn. – University of Arkansas freshman Alex Schulte carded a one-under 70 and ranks among the early leaders at the Mercedes Benz Collegiate Classic in Franklin, Tenn., Friday. Schulte, a Broken Arrow, Okla., native was two under on the back nine and is tied for second after first round place on the par 71 Cherokee Country Club course. “I’m very pleased with how Alex played today,” said Arkansas head coach Kelley Hester. “She was exciting to watch and we’re looking forward to big things from her the rest of this event.” The 27th-ranked Lady Razorbacks finished with a first-round 303 and are tied for sixth overall. No. 17 Auburn leads the field with a first-round 287. The Swedish Junior National Team is tied with top-ranked Georgia with a 296, followed by No. 21 North Carolina with a 297, No. 15 Tennessee with 298 and No. 38 Alabama and No. 27 Arkansas at 303. Arkansas as a team is in good position to make a move against the field despite some higher than average scores from several players. Schulte is second with her one-under 70, followed by sophomore Lucy Nunn who posted a plus-three 74 and is tied for 18th overall. Junior Stacy Lewis carded an opening round 79 and is tied for 49th followed by freshman Corinna Rees who shot 80 and is tied for 55th. Junior Ashley Medders opened with an 85 and is tied for 77th while redshirt freshman Tanica van As, competing as an individual, posted a first-round 82. Play continues through the weekend.
