Tennis Hogs leave Annapolis with three more wins

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Razorback men’s tennis concluded competition at the Navy Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 14. The Arkansas netters picked up three more wins on the final day of play, good for eight wins on the weekend.

"It was a good day overall," head coach Robert Cox said. "I’m a little disappointed with Bradwin Williams’ play at No. 1 singles. He had chances but he let go at the end. You can’t let opportunities like that go by. I’m really pleased with the weekend Matt Walters had in his Razorback debut. He won all three of his doubles matches and went two-for-three in singles play."

Walters got his second singles victory of the weekend when he edged out Dylan Schrode of Richmond, 3-2, ret. Nick Spinazze found his first singles win of the weekend as he defeated Matt Feeley of Richmond, 6-2, 6-1. Williams fell in his final singles match, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, to Michael Sommer of Richmond.

In doubles play, Walters and partner Chase Miller of Oklahoma picked up their third doubles win of the weekend after topping Raphael Arana and AJ Nelson of Richmond, 8-3. Walters and Miller won the doubles championship in flight three with a record of 3-0 on the weekend.

Spinazze and Williams fell in their final doubles match of the tournament. Sam Hyland and Schrode of Richmond topped the Hog duo, 8-6.

"Nick Spinazze is getting indoctrinated into collegiate tennis," Cox said. "He’s still looking for his comfort zone and he found it today in singles play. He played much better today and it was a good learning weekend for him. This weekend was a good starting point for the rest of the fall season."

Arkansas men’s tennis will compete next at the Louisiana-Lafayette Fall Invitational, Friday-Sunday, September 19-21. Dmitry Lebedev, Tyler Tarnasky and Walters will be traveling for the event. For more information, visit ArkansasRazorbacks.com.
