Tigu Lukomskaya advance to finals

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Junior Anouk Tigu and sophomore Kate Lukomskaya both qualified for the finals in their singles draws to highlight a strong second day at the Razorback Classic for the Arkansas women’s tennis team. Tigu and Lukomskaya were undefeated on the day, as their doubles pairs also advanced to the finals.

“Today we took some real steps forward,” Arkansas coach Michael Hegarty said. “I was especially pleased again with our older players who are providing much needed leadership to our younger student-athletes.

Tigu defeated Anatasia Erofeeva from Tulsa 7-6(4), 6-4 and will face another Golden Hurricane, Alexandra Kichoutkin, in Sunday morning’s Red draw final. Kichoutkin defeated junior Emily Carbone 6-4, 7-5 in semifinal action to earn her spot in the finals.

Lukomskaya won a 6-2, 6-0 decision against Tulsa’s Caroline Beaulieu and will square off against Marta Marcinkowska, also of Tulsa, in the White draw final.

In singles consolation play, freshman Annemijn Koenen and Valentina Starkova both earned their second victories of the weekend. Koenen beat Kansas State’s Petra Chuda 6-3, 6-2 while Starkova defeated another Wildcat Nina Sertic 6-3, 7-6(3). Kelsey Sundaram added a 6-4, 2-6, 10-3 victory over Tulsa’s JoAnne Karaitiana.

Lindsey Gray fell to Natasha Vieira from Kansas State 6-0, 6-0, as did Adriana Nieto to Ana Gomez-Aleman, also of Kansas State, 6-1, 6-1. Paulson dropped a hard-fought match to Oklahoma State’s Nataliya Shatkovskaya 7-6(5), 3-6, 10-6.

In doubles action, Lukomskaya and Sundaram deafeated Tulsa’s Caroline Beaulieu and Jie Zeng 8-4 while Paulson and Tigu won 8-3 over Marta Marcinkowska and Rebecca Row of Tulsa. Carbone and Starkova beat Kansas State’s Carmen Borau-Ramos and Natasha Vieira 9-8(5). Koenen and Nieto fell to the Kansas State duo of Chuda and Maryna Chumak 8-5.

Action wraps up on Sunday beginning with doubles play at 8:30 a.m. Central time. One round of singles will follow at its completion.
