Tigu ready for NCAA singles action

FAYETTEVILLE– Arkansas junior Anouk Tigu was one of the 64 players selected for the 2010 NCAA Singles Championship, to be held at the Magill Tennis Center in Athens, Ga. On May 26-31. This is Tigu’s first trip to the tournament where she will compete against the top players in the nation. Nine players from the Southeastern Conference received invitations in singles and among them four players are seeded.
“Anouk is having a fantastic season, “ head coach Michael Hegarty said. “ This invitation is well deserved. She has led our team well all season and I expect a strong showing from her in Athens.”
Tigu went 15-9 this season and is currently ranked No. 29. She was an All-SEC first team selection. At the top of the lineup, she has lead the charge for the Hogs with wins over seven nationally ranked players including, No. 45 Fani Chifchieva of Auburn, top 16-player Denise Chan of Washington and Alexa Guarachi of Alabama.
In past years, Arkansas players have experienced tremendous success in the in individual portion of the Championship with Aureliia Miseviciute advancing to the quarterfinals in 2009 and the semifinals in 2008.
The No. 24 University of Arkansas women’s tennis team will return to tennis action Friday, May 14th at 2 p.m. against the No. 42 Oklahoma Sooners in the first round of the team competition of the 2010 NCAA tournament. The match will be played Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Okla.
