Tough Practice for Hog Football on Monday

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas football participated in drills and maneuvers for two hours in full pads on the practice fields just south of Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium on Monday.

“We felt a little sorry for ourselves today,” head coach Houston Nutt said. “I thought we came out here and started pretty good but we didn’t finish up the way we needed to. I know we are bruised, sore and we have a lot of guys on the sidelines and in the training room. We have to get much more tomorrow. We have to get much more out of our team.”

The offense shined at Saturday’s scrimmage, gaining 201 yards on 35 carries and scoring three touchdowns. They carried little of that success into Monday’s practice.

“The offense had some success on Saturday and they were feeling pretty good,” Nutt said. “We still have to get much better. There are still some things that we are installing, some things that we are doing. It’s an attitude of coming out here, buckling up both chin straps and getting better. It was more offensively then defensively. We have had very good practices up until today. We need to get one back tomorrow. I think they are a little sore and beat up. We are going to have a much better practice tomorrow.”

Injuries and class work are two of the main reasons for some players missing practices. Marcus Monk, Jonathan Luigs and Ernest Mitchell were three who missed because of school obligations. Marcus Shavers and Fred Bledsoe missed practice on Monday because of injuries.

“We were missing two guys, Marcus Monk and Jonathan Luigs, who had projects that they had to get done today,” Nutt said. “Their class met at 4 p.m. today so that’s a priority. We are very thin on the defensive line. Bledsoe is out along with Marcus Shavers. Ernest Mitchell didn’t come to practice today because of school so we are really thin.”
