Two earn spots in ITA rankings

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Two members of the University of Arkansas women’s tennis team were included in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s singles and doubles rankings released Friday and the selections for the upcoming Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships.

Junior Anouk Tigu is the lone Razorback ranked in singles at No. 59. Tigu along with sophomore Kate Lukomskaya are ranked No. 40 in the ITA’s doubles rankings.

Tigu earned a spot in the qualifying singles section of the All-American championships.

The tournament includes six rounds of preliminary and qualifying matches beginning Saturday, October 3, 2009, and is hosted by the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

Arkansas will swing into the fall season when they travel to the Southeastern Conference Fall Coaches Classic in Nashville, Tenn., beginning Friday.

The event provides a fall showcase for SEC women’s tennis, featuring 12 of the top 60 teams in the nation, according to the May 22 ITA ratings. Ten teams finished last season ranked in the country’s top 30, including Arkansas at No. 15.
