FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The 26th-ranked University of Arkansas women’s golf team moved 11 spots ups the leaderboard into third place after second round action at the LSU/Cleveland Classic in Baton Rouge, La., Saturday. Arkansas posted a second-round 284 – the low score for the day – and is plus-six for the tournament with a 582. The Razorbacks shaved 14 strokes off their first-round score and moved from 14th to third. “We did a lot of awesome things out there today,” said Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor. “It was raining cats and dogs and so windy but we got a tremendous finish today and we played like we had prepared.” Despite the heavy wind and rain throughout the round on the par 72, 6,424-yard course, Arkansas’ players remained focused. Senior Lucy Nunn shot a career-best 68 Saturday. The Lawton, Okla., native opened on the 12th hole with a birdie and added her second on the 13th hole. She also birdied 16, 18, one and seven and had a chance to shave two more strokes from her score but picked up bogies on six and nine. Nunn is tied for second overall with a 140 (72-68). Junior Alex Schulte was also under par with a one-under 71, tying her career-low round. Schulte started her day on the 14t hole and picked up a pair of birdies on the back nine. She is tied for 28th overall with 148 (77-71). Sophomore Kelli Shean (76-72) was even Saturday and moved up the leaderboard to tie for 28th with a 148 along with teammates Schulte and junior Kristin Ingram (75-73). Freshman Katy Nugent rounded out the Arkansas scoring with a second-round 74 and is tied for 35th with a 149. Third-ranked Virginia held on to the lead after two rounds and is four-under for the tournament with a 572. Number 12 Wake Forest is two strokes better than Arkansas with a 580 followed by the Razorbacks with a 582. Fortieth-ranked Tulane and No. 13 North Carolina are tied for fourth with 583, followed by No. 9 LSU in sixth with 584, No.17 Louisville in seventh with 590, No. 32 TCU in eighth with 591, and No. 46 Kentucky is ninth with 592. “We have one more day to go out and finish strong,” said Estes-Taylor. “We hope to jump up a few places and give ourselves a shot at winning the tournament.” For more information about Arkansas women’s golf, log on to ArkansasRazorbacks.com.
