#11 Razorback MGolf T-3rd After 2 Rds at Virginia
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The #11 Arkansas men’s golf team stood in sixth after 18 holes Monday morning before climbing into a tie for third in the afternoon session at the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial, played at Birdwood Golf Course. The Razorbacks are tied with #31 North Florida with a 1-over-par score of 569 (284-285).
Tennessee raced out to a double-digit stroke lead after two rounds. The 10th-ranked Vols are 23-under (276-269=545) and lead sixth-ranked Florida State by 17 strokes. The Seminoles sit at -6 (280-282=562). North Florida was six-over in the afternoon session but stayed in third place with its two-round total of 569. Northwestern, ranked 41st nationally, is fifth (570) and host #12 Virginia is sixth ((+4).
The Razorbacks have three players among the top 25.
Ben Hogan Award candidate John Driscoll III is tied for eighth after a 36-hole, 3-under-par 139 (72-67). He was 1-over after the morning session thanks to a birdie on his final hole, the par-4, 5th. He opened the afternoon with a bogey on his second hole, the par-3, 7th, then birdied six of the inward nine holes (10-18). He did drop a shot on his 17th hole, but his 67 was still good enough to propel him 24 spots up the leaderboard.
Jacob Skov Olesen is looking for his eighth-straight top-15 finish. He currently stands in a tie for 16th with an even-par 142 (69-73). He offset two bogeys with four birdies in the morning to stand in 10th. However, he dropped six spots with his 2-over 73 despite his eagle and three birdies.
Manuel Lozada is tied for 25th at +2. He was even par and in 22nd place after 18 holes, carding four bogeys and four birdies. He started the afternoon with a birdie but followed that with a pair of bogeys. A birdie on his sixth hole got Lozada back to even par. He suffered a double on his 15th hole and a bogey on his 16th before closing the day with a birdie for his 2-over 73.
Thomas Curry is T36 (72-74=146 / +4) and Christian Castillo, who jumped 16 spots in the afternoon, is T43 (75-72=147 / +5). John Daly II, who is playing as an individual, is T59 (74-75=149 / +7).
The third and final round of the Memorial Is set for Tuesday (April 9).
