#12 Arkansas Loses to #4 Georgia in SEC Tournament Championship Game
HOOVER, Ala. – No. 12 Arkansas (39-20) lost 11-1 in seven innings to No. 4 Georgia (46-12) Sunday afternoon at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium in the SEC Tournament championship game. The seventh-seeded Razorbacks were seeking their first SEC Tournament title since 2021 and their third conference tournament championship in program history.
The top-seeded Bulldogs scored five in the first inning and never looked back, opening an 8-0 lead before Maika Niu’s solo shot, his ninth home run of the year, in the top of the sixth put the Hogs on the board. Georgia would respond with three runs in the bottom half of the frame and retired Arkansas in the top of the seventh to close out its run-rule win.
Offensively, three Razorbacks – Damian Ruiz (2-for-4, 2B), Ryder Helfrick (2-for-4) and Niu (2-for-3, HR, RBI) – collected multiple hits in Sunday’s setback. Camden Kozeal, meanwhile, added a hit and walk to cap off his big week in Hoover.
The Razorback shortstop was one of two Arkansas players named to the SEC All-Tournament Team. Gabe Gaeckle also earned all-tournament honors after his six-inning, nine-strikeout performance in the win against No. 5 Texas on May 22.
Up next, Arkansas awaits its NCAA Tournament fate. The full 64-team field, top 16 national seeds, first-round regional pairings and site assignments will be announced at 11 am Monday, May 25, on ESPN2.
