Soccer Shuts Out Broncos, 3-0, in Shortened Match

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Razorbacks (3-1-0) picked up their first shutout of the 2022 campaign after defeating Western Michigan (0-3-1), 3-0. The match ended in the 72nd minute due to lightning in the area.

How it Happened

It did not take long at all for the Hogs to grab an early lead. 39 seconds into the match, freshman Ainsley Erzen took a cross from junior Ava Tankersley down into the box. After one touch, Erzen fired a high and powerful shot off her left foot and into the back of the net for the second goal of her career.

Tankersley was credited with her fourth assist of the season.

Forward Jessica De Filippo doubled Arkansas’ lead in the 15th minute. Defender Emilee Hauser sent the ball from midfield into the penalty box where it found the head of a Bronco player. De Filippo picked the ball up near the far side of the 6-yard box and fired across the ground for the unassisted score.

The Razorbacks’ final goal of the shortened match came in the 36th minute, this time off a set piece. Hauser served a corner kick from the near side right into the head of senior midfielder Bea Franklin on the 6-yard box line. Franklin’s header was tipped into the back of the net by the Western Michigan goalie Hannah Sargent.

Arkansas went into the locker room leading in shots, 11-3.

Lightning struck 10 minutes into the second half and caused a 30-minute delay. Play resumed at 8:50 only to be stopped again 18 minutes later in the 72nd minute. The teams mutually agreed to end the match.

Arkansas finished the match outshooting the Broncos, 22-4. 12 of the Hogs’ shots were on target.
