Arkansas Drops SEC Home Opener to Aggies

FAYETTEVILLE  – The University of Arkansas volleyball team (6-9, 0-3) was off to a fiery start in the first set but some defensive hiccups and service errors would turn the tide in favor of Texas A&M as the Aggies pulled away for the three-set win.

HOG HIGHLIGHTS

  • Jillian Gillen | 9 kills | .250% | 2 blocks
  • Maggie Cartwright | 7 kills | 4 digs | 1 service ace

THE TURNING POINT

Arkansas had the lead until mid-way through the first set, when a kill by A&M’s Mallory Talbert tied the score at 15 points apiece. The two teams went back and forth and a kill by Gillen tied the score again late in the match, 19-19, but the Aggies sparked a 6-0 scoring run to claim the first set 25-19.

After dropping the second set, 25-16, the Razorbacks found themselves battling late in the third set but unable to start any rallies. The Hogs kept Texas A&M from scoring consecutive points down the stretch, but the Aggies outscored the Razorbacks 25-18 in the final set to complete the win.
