Arkansas Falls To No. 6 Texas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas men’s tennis team fell to No. 6 Texas 6-1 at home Sunday afternoon, falling to 8-3 on the year and suffering its first home loss of the season. The matchup was Arkansas’ second this season against a top-10 opponent after facing No. 2 Ohio State in Columbus earlier this season.

Texas jumped out to a 1-0 lead after taking the doubles point as the Longhorns took courts one and three.

The Longhorns would take a 2-0 lead off of Colin Markes’ (UT) win over Pedro Dominguez Alonso 6-4, 6-2. The Razorbacks would cut the lead to 2-1 off of Alex Reco’s two set win over the 91st-ranked Leanard Telles (UT) 6-3, 6-4.

Texas proceeded to take four-consecutive wins as the match was clinched on court two as No. 14 Yuya Ito (UT) def. Josh Howard-Tripp 6-3, 6-2.

On court one, No. 97 Oscar Mesquida won the first set tiebreaker 7-6(2), but dropped the final two sets 6-3, 10-6 to fall to 6th-ranked Christian Sigsgaard.

The Razorbacks are set to return home this Saturday to host Oklahoma and UMKC. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
