New Mexico Cherry and Silver complete results 2016

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. / ALBUQUERQUE, Nm. – Day two action for the top-ranked Arkansas women’s track and field team centered around the high-hurdle finals.

At the Gladstein Fieldhouse in Bloomington, Ind. Arkansas hurdle crew of Taliyah Brooks, Alex Gochenour, Kelsey Herman and Payton Stumbaugh swept the 60-meter hurdle finals.

SEC leader in the 60-meter hurdles Brooks placed first in the finals section running 8.26 to narrowly edge out Stumbaugh who crossed the finish line to take second place in 8.29.

Herman and Gochenour completed the sweep finishing third and fourth respectively.

Brooks, Gochenour and Stumbaugh carried their success over to the field as they all finished within the top five of the long jump. The top entrant in the field, Brooks earned her second victory of the day leaping 6.10m/20-0 to finish in first. Gochenour jumped 5.83m/19-1.25 for fourth place while Stumbaugh marked 5.66m/18-7 for fifth place.

Newcomer Kiara Parker added another strong performance for the Razorbacks finishing second in the 60-meter dash in 7.60.

Arkansas capped their weekend in Indiana with three more event wins with Therese Haiss in the invitational 800-meter run, Kailee Sawyer in the open 800-meter run and Taylor Ellis-Watson in the 200-meter dash.

Out west at the New Mexico Cherry and Silver Invitational the Razorbacks earned four top ten finishes – three in the pole vault and one in the shot put.

NCAA pole vault leader Lexi Weeks continued her solid freshman campaign as the top collegiate performer in the event. Weeks collected another 14 foot clearance finishing in second place with 4.40m/14-5.25 behind Nike athlete Mary Saxer.

Ariel Voskamp and Tori Weeks tied for fifth place in the pole vault with clearances of 4.15m/13-7.25.

Junior Micah Dennis finished in seventh place in the shot put with a throw of 14.03m/46-0.5.

Arkansas returns to the Randal Tyson Track Center on Friday, Jan. 29 when they host 12 of the best programs around the nation at the Razorback Invitational.
