Arkansas Leads NCAA Regional After Round One

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – No. 20 Arkansas Women’s Golf sits atop the leaderboard following round one at the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional, firing a 291 (+7) through the first 18 holes. The Razorbacks are followed by Washington and Michigan who are tied for second at 293 (+9).

Leading the Hogs through round one was junior Ela Anacona, who carded a season-best 69 in round one. Anacona turned in a bogey free 18 holes to lead to her two-under performance. Starting on No. 10, she birdied 13 to go along with eight pars for a 34 and carded a birdie on No. 7 to go with eight more pars to turn in the day’s low round. The Buenos Aries, Argentina native is tied with Jana Melichova of Old Dominion for the top spot on the individual leaderboard.

Juniors Kajal Mistry, Julia Gregg and sophomore Miriam Ayora each claimed a share of 23rd place after 18 holes, all at three-over following round one. Mistry’s one birdie put her even through the back 9 but fired three bogeys on the front 9 to finish round one at three-over 74. Gregg was even through the first four holes, firing two birdies on the back 9 and one on the front 9 to round out her day. After a three-over 38 on the back 9, Ayora turned in an even-par 36 on the front nine, closing out her day with six straight pars.

Rounding out the Hogs’ lineup was freshman Ffion Tynan, who fired a five-over 76 in round one. She is currently tied for 38th place in her first ever NCAA Regional.

Arkansas tees it up tomorrow morning for the second round of the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional at 8 a.m. CT.
