Arkansas Sweeps Billikens

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.- The Arkansas women’s tennis team opened its home slate with a 7-0 sweep over Saint Louis Sunday night.

The Hogs got off to a fast start, taking the doubles point in straight sets. Lauren Alter and Laura Rijkers earned a 6-0 victory at the No. 2 position, with Thea Rice and Jackie Carr clinching the point with a 6-2 win at the No. 3 position.

The momentum of doubles play carried into the singles matches, with Carr earning a 6-1, 6-0 victory and Rijkers earning a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the No. 4 position. Thea Rice earned her first collegiate clinch, defeating Alana Bourgeois 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 6 position.

The team played through the clinch, with Tatum Rice earning a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Ally McKenzie. Martina Zerulo put the team up 6-0 with a 6-4, 3-6, 1-0(11-9) win at the No. 1 position, while Alter put the match away with a 7-6(5), 6-1 win.

Arkansas will return to the court next week, hosting Louisiana Monroe on Jan. 25. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
