Arkansas Takes Down Omaha, Arizona
TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 13 Arkansas Razorbacks swept their Saturday doubleheader at the Bear Down Fiesta at Hillenbrand Stadium. Arkansas took down Omaha, 9-2, before handing the Arizona Wildcats (9-1) their first loss of the season in the 3-2 victory.
Arkansas improves to 7-2 overall. The Hogs move to 5-0 all-time vs. Omaha and 3-5 all-time against Arizona. Arkansas concludes the Bear Down Fiesta at 10 a.m. Sunday vs. Omaha. The game will be available to stream on FloSoftball.
The Razorbacks outhit opponents 20-11 Saturday, including putting up a season-high 13 hits vs. Omaha. The Razorbacks held opponents to just four runs across 14 innings of play.
Game 1
Arkansas cruised to its first win of the day after dismantling the Omaha Mavericks, 9-2. Three Hog arms were used in the circle with sophomore RHP Reis Beuerlein making her third start of the season. Beuerlein struck out two and surrendered two runs on four hits across 2.1 innings pitched. Sophomore RHP Nikki McGaffin replaced Beuerlein in the circle in the third, recording her first career win after retiring two batters to escape the jam. Sophomore LHP Hannah Camenzind hurled the final 4.0 scoreless frames, allowing just two hits. Camenzind did not allow a walk.
The Razorback offense exploded against the Mavericks, compiling a season-high 13 hits, including two home runs. Eight different Hogs totaled at least one hit led by sophomore Reagan Johnson’s 3-for-4 performance. Johnson also scored a run and added an RBI. Redshirt senior Rylin Hedgecock launched her second home run of the season – a three-run blast – in the fourth. Junior Bri Ellis rocketed her third home run of the weekend on a solo shot to left center in the second. Ellis finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Redshirt seniors Nia Carter and Cylie Halvorson each finished with two hits and an RBI.
Omaha struck first with a two-spot in the bottom of the first. The Razorbacks quickly answered on Ellis’ solo home run in the top of the second to trim the Mavericks’ lead to 2-1.
Arkansas pounded in four runs in the fourth on Hannah Gammill’s sacrifice fly and Hedgecock’s three-run shot to left field. In search of insurance runs in the top of the seventh, the Razorbacks pieced together a four-run frame.
Game 2
Sophomore LHP Robyn Herron (3-2) continued to impress in the circle en route to her third win. Herron curbed a hot Arizona offense, limiting the Wildcats to two runs on five hits across 7.0 frames. The Tampa product fanned three and allowed just two walks.
Freshman catcher Kennedy Miller shined offensively, going a career-best 3-for-3 at the dish. Reagan Johnson logged her fifth multi-hit game of the season after finishing 2-for-4 with a stolen base.
The Hogs pounced on the Wildcats in the first inning after plating two runs. Johnson belted a leadoff single and Raigan Kramer reached after getting hit by a pitch. A double steal then pushed both to second and third. Nia Carter scored Johnson from third on a ground ball to short and a muffed throw by the catcher allowed Kramer to cross home.
Arkansas got its final run in the fourth on Hannah Gammill’s solo home run to left.
