Ayora, Mistry Pace Razorbacks on Day One

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Back in action on the course, the Arkansas women’s golf team completed round one of the Moon Golf Invitational with a 3-under 285. The Razorbacks stand in a tie for ninth, one stroke behind eighth-place Virginia Tech and nine behind the leader in LSU, who is 12-under par. Miriam Ayora and Kajal Mistry each carded a two-under 70 to lead Arkansas, while sitting in a tie for 19th out of 97 golfers in the field.

Ayora logged four birdies to tie for a team’s most, while having just two bogeys on the day to finish with a 2-under 70. She averaged a 3.8 on par 4s and 4.5 on par 5s to both lead the squad. Finishing under par in the round marks the sixth time this season she has done so.

Mistry had a solid day with a bogey-free round of golf to also finish the round 2-under par. She came up with two birdies thru her first nine holes and continued to roll throughout the rest of the day. She is leading the field with 16 pars.

Meghan Royal finished with an even-72 and is in a tie for 40th. She started out strong with three birdies thru her first nine holes, including in back-to-back holes on 17 and 18, but hit some trouble on hole No. 2. The freshman tied for a team’s most four birdies and finished at par or under for the second time this season.

In her first time back in action since September, Ela Anacona finished with a 1-over 73 and is in a tie for 58th. She tallied two birdies and finished the last four holes with pars.

Giovanna Fernandez and Ffion Tynan are in a tie for 73rd with a 3-over 75. Fernandez hit some bumps on holes 14 to 18, but finished strong on the front nine with one birdie, one bogey and seven pars. Competing as an individual, Tynan had three birdies on the day and finished her final four holes with pars but came up with double bogeys on holes 13 and five.

Arkansas has the third best par 4s average at 3.92, as well as the fourth most pars with 63 after 18 holes.
