Championship Title In Midland

MIDLAND, Texas – Sophomore Natsuho Arakawa and junior Agne Cepelyte capped an impressive opening weekend for the Arkansas women’s tennis team Sunday, winning the doubles title at the prestigious Midland Invitational held at The Racquet Club of Midland.

Arakawa and Cepelyte earned a 6-4 victory in the doubles semifinals over Texas Tech’s Lana Rush and Katelyn Jackson before beating Illinois’ Emilee Duong and Grace Tapak, 8-6, in the championship match.

Sophomore Jackie Carr and freshman Tatum Rice each picked up singles consolation victories.

“I couldn’t be prouder of the four ladies here in Midland,” assistant coach Jovan Parlic said. “The tournament was high quality and the conditions were challenging. Yet, we seemed to grow stronger as the three days went on. The sky is the limit for our squad this season.”
