PALM CITY, Fla. – In one of the nation’s premier events, the Arkansas men’s golf team is in 11th place after the opening day of the Valspar Collegiate Invitational at the par 71, 7,114-yard Floridian National Golf Club.

The golf course won the day as all 15 nationally ranked teams finished over par. No. 23 Arkansas is in 11th place overall after rounds of 298-297/595 (+27). No. 8 Texas has a 10 shot lead on the lead field at two-over, while LSU (+12), Oklahoma State (+15), Texas A&M (+16) and South Florida (+17) round out the top five. Arkansas leads four nationally ranked opponents, including No. 7 Florida by 16 strokes.

Taylor Moore and Nicolas Echavarria paced the Razorbacks at five-over, as Moore recorded rounds of 75-72/147, while Echavarria shot 73-74/147 to sit T-20th overall.

Charles Kim rolled in six birdies on the day for rounds of 74-75/149 and T-35th place overall, while Alec Tahy is tied for 60th place at 1-over after rounds of 76-77/153. Kolton Crawford rounds out the team in T-63rd place with 78-76/154 to finish at 12-over.

Playing as an individual, Alvaro Ortiz came out and shot an even-par 71 in the opening round with two birdies, before coming back in the afternoon and recording a two-over 73, good for T-8th overall. He is just three strokes back of second place and six shots back of tournament leader Gavin Hall (-5) from Texas.
