Defensive Battle Leads to Scoreless Tie with LSU

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The ninth-ranked Razorbacks (10-3-2, 5-2-1 SEC) tallied their first tie in league play and drew with LSU on Thursday night (8-3-5, 3-2-3 SEC), 0-0.

Goalkeeper Grace Barbara notched her ninth clean sheet of the season and tied the program’s single-season shutout record.

First Half

The Hogs recorded the first shot of the match a minute and a half in, taken by freshman Makenzie Malham. Arkansas went on to record eight more shots, with the best chance coming with 11 minutes to play in the half. Defender Emilee Hauser took a free kick from midfield that found the head of freshman Taylor Berman. LSU goalkeeper Mollee Swift made a leaping catch.

The Tigers only managed to fire off one shot in the half.

Second Half

Both teams traded shots to open the second half, with another Arkansas chance coming in the 66th minute. Malham brought the ball down the near side of the field and passed it to senior forward Anna Podojil, who was called offsides. The Hogs had junior forward Ava Tankersley in the 6-yard box ready to put away Podojil’s cross.

Arkansas finished the match ahead in the shots category, 21-5. Forward Jessica De Filippo led the team with six.

The Hogs last tied with an SEC opponent in 2019.

Hear it from Coach Hale

“That was a frustrating one; we did a lot of good things. Our work ethic was good but we wanted more than one point. We will get rested up and get ready for a good Ole Miss team on Sunday.”
