Hogs Cruise by Bears, Nab Second Home Win
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas women’s tennis team (5-2) cruised to a 4-0 victory over visiting Missouri State at Billingsley Tennis Center Saturday afternoon.
Arkansas started quickly in their first home match in nearly a month, claiming the doubles point and carrying the momentum over into singles where it posted wins on courts five, one and two to clinch the match.
DOUBLES
Arkansas began the match by seizing the doubles point. With a new-look lineup, the Razorbacks posted victories on courts one and two leaving the third court unfinished. The 22nd-ranked Tatum Rice and Lauren Alter claimed a 6-0 win over Alye Darter and Ellie Burger in the No.1 position. It was the duo of Jackie Carr and Kelly Keller, who clinched the match point with a 6-3 victory. Laura Rijkers and Claire Slaughter saw their match go unfinished despite leading.
SINGLES
The Razorbacks’ strong play continued in singles where they nabbed wins in five of the opening sets.
From court five, Rijkers opened the singles scoring with a dominant 6-0, 6-2 win to improve to 5-0 on the young season. Not long after, Carr posted a 6-0, 6-1 winner from the No. 1 slot. Tatum Rice clinched the match for the Hogs recording a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Ellie Burger on court two.
Arkansas saw three matches go unfinished as courts three, four and six went without a verdict.
UP NEXT
The Hogs will be back on the Hill Feb. 28 opening SEC play against Ole Miss.
