Hogs Fall In Waco

WACO, Texas – The Arkansas men’s tennis team fell to No. 5 Baylor in Waco Thursday night 6-1. The Razorbacks are set to return home next Thursday to host Vanderbilt.

Baylor secured the doubles point to go up 1-0 after a tight battle on all three courts. The scores were tied 3-3 on all three courts before Baylor took courts three and two in succession by scores of 6-3 and 6-4, respectively.

The Bears extended their lead to 2-0 as Adrian Boitan (BU) def. Alex Reco 6-3, 6-0 on court four. The match was clinched with consecutive wins on courts three and five as Josh Howard-Tripp and Enrique Paya dropped their matches in two-sets.

Arkansas picked up its only point of the night on court six as Pedro Dominguez Alonso def. Kyrylo Tsygura (BU) in a three set thriller. After falling in the first set 5-7, Alonso fought back to win the second set decisively 6-1. The tiebreak was won by a score of 12-10 to give Alonso the victory.

In a battle of ranked individuals, #42 Johannes Schretter (BU) narrowly beat out #53 Oscar Mesquida 6-2, 0-6, 6-4 in a three set contest on court one. On court two, #124 Adam Sanjurjo fell to #77 Matias Soto (BU), 6-4, 6-4.

The Razorbacks are set to return home next week for a pair of Southeastern Conference matches. Arkansas will host Vanderbilt on Thursday beginning at 6 p.m., and return on Saturday to host Kentucky at 1 p.m. The Hogs currently sit at 1-1 in league play.
