Hogs Narrowly Fall to Ole Miss in Match Play

ROLAND, Ark. – No. 3 Arkansas Women’s Golf lost its match against Ole Miss today, falling to the defending National Champions 2-1-2 on the final day at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup. LSU won the team title, as they beat South Carolina, 4-1-0.

Junior Kajal Mistry was the only Hog to win her match, as she took down Natacha Husted, 4&3. Mistry dominated the match from the beginning, winning five of the first seven holes to essentially put the match to bed before making the turn. Her lead would balloon all the way out to six by hole number nine, but Husted would get it back to four by hole 12. Mistry then tied the remaining holes, and the match was over after the pair tied the 15th hole.

Julia Gregg and Cory Lopez both tied in their matches. Gregg’s matchup with Julia Johnson was close throughout, though Gregg jumped on Johnson early, leading by three holes after winning the fifth hole. However, Johnson whittled Gregg’s lead down to one by hole eight, tied the match by hole 12, and actually had a one-hole lead after she beat Gregg on the 15th. However, Gregg notched a clutch win on hole 17 and the pair tied 18 to end the match in a tie. Lopez, who took on McKinley Cunningham, meanwhile, had a two-stroke lead heading down the stretch, clawing her way out of a two hole deficit. However, Lopez lost 17 and 18, ending the match in a tie.

The Rebels won the two remaining matches, giving them third place in the team portion of the event. Andrea Lignell beat Ela Anacona, 3&2, while Chiara Tamburlini took down Miriam Ayora, 1UP.
