McEwen Becomes All-Time Hits Leader in Win Over WKU

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.. – Senior Hannah McEwen became the program’s all-time hits leader (228) as No. 10 Arkansas concluded its four-game road swing with an 8-1 win over Western Kentucky (21-5) Monday night at Western Kentucky Softball Complex.

Senior Danielle Gibson reached base in all four appearances while homering a season-high two times and compiling four RBIs and three runs. McEwen’s single up the middle in the top of the third pushed her atop the program’s all-time hits leaderboard. Linnie Malkin went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and one run. Taylor Ellsworth also notched two hits. Hannah Gammill joined Gibson and Malkin with a home run to go along with two RBIs and two runs. Audrie LaValley and Kacie Hoffmann recorded a hit each.

Senior Mary Haff moved her season record to 9-2 after spinning the game’s final 4.1 innings. Haff dealt two strikeouts and gave up zero runs on one hit. Chenise Delce twirled the game’s first 2.2 innings, striking out five while surrendering just one run on three hits.

How It Happened

Western Kentucky scored its lone run in the top of the first.

Gibson laced her first home run of the night in the top of the second to tie the game at one apiece.

Both teams were held scoreless until Gammill’s two-run home run in the sixth broke the game open.

After holding the Hilltoppers scoreless in the bottom frame, the Razorbacks responded with a five-run top of the seventh. It all began with yet another home run by Gibson – this time a three-run jack to right-center for a 6-1 Hog edge. Next, Malkin blasted a two-run shot for the Razorback’s final two runs.
