No. 6 Women’s Golf Sits in Sixth at MountainView Collegiate

TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 6 Arkansas women’s golf team is in a tie for sixth place with a 2-over 291 after one round at the MountainView Collegiate played at The Preserve Golf Club. The Hogs were 2-under par thru the front nine, but the back nine was playing tougher, as Arkansas finished over par on the day. South Florida leads the field with a 6-under 282 as one of two teams in the 15 team-field to fire off a score under par on Friday.

Three Hogs are in a tie for 15th in the 81-person tournament field after carding a 72 in the first round. Ela Anacona finished even par for her seventh time logging a par or better round this season with a strong back nine, which featured one birdie and eight pars. Anacona started with two bogeys through the first five holes but responded with a birdie on six and a bogeyless 12 final holes. The graduate student paces the field with the best par 3s average at 2.75.

Maria José Marin was even par after tallying two birdies and two bogeys with 14 pars. She logged her 14th round at par or better in 18 rounds this season. Reagan Zibilski was 2-under through the front nine after logging two birdies and seven pars but had bogeys on holes 11 and 18 to finish with a 72. Her finish marked her 10th at par or under this year.

Miriam Ayora tallied a 3-over 75, sitting in a tie for 43rd. She had a wild last half of the front nine but finished even through the front. Two bogeys and a double bogey in the last half of the back nine put her above par. She finished with a team-high four birdies on Friday and is tied for a tournament’s best 2.75 par 3s average.

Giovanna Fernandez is also in a tie for 43rd after carding a 3-over 75. Competing as an individual, Fernandez started on the back nine, and recovered from a double bogey on the 15th hole with a birdie on 16. She had two double bogeys in the front nine and finished the day with 14 pars. Kendall Todd registered a 4-over 76 behind 13 pars, one birdie, three bogeys and one double bogey. She is in a tie for 52nd.

Arkansas paces the field in par 3s average at 2.90 and is second in the field with 64 pars. Fernandez, José Marin and Zibilski tie for a field third most pars with 14.
