Final Results

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 5 Arkansas men’s track and field team took full advantage of the amazing weather conditions for their home opener collecting several personal best marks in multiple events throughout the final day of the Arkansas Spring Invitational. Razorback multi events trio Lane Austell, Brad Culp and Derek Jacobus paced Arkansas to success with NCAA-leading performances in the decathlon.

Austell put out some big performances claiming the top time in the 110-meter hurdles (14.89), best mark in the discus throw (41.39m/135-9) and second best mark in the javelin throw (51.46m/168-10), all of which were career best event improvements. Culp also collected an all-conditions career best in the 110-meter hurdles of 14.92 before going on to secure 941 points as the strongest performer in the pole vault. Jacobus rounded out the group as the event leader in the 1,500-meter run crossing the finish nine seconds ahead of Austell who placed second in the race.

The Razorback decathletes swept the event with Culp finishing first (7,438), Austell in second (7,298) and Jacobus third (7,281) securing spots in Arkansas history as the fifth, sixth and seventh best performers of all time in the event. Their point totals are the top-three best in the NCAA of 2016.

Ohio State transfer Davon Anderson also picked up an event win for the Razorbacks capturing the open 110-meter hurdle title in 14.07. Arkansas went 1-2-4 in the race as Anderson was trailed by Kemar Mowatt (14.10) and Larry Donald (14.19) who finished in second and fourth respectively.

Arkansas senior Devin Randall placed in the top five in the discus throw and shot put throwing to a career best mark of 17.37m/57-0 in the latter – tied for seventh in school history. Freshmen Jeff Rogers and Sam Kempka joined Randall inside the shot put top five placing second and fifth respectively. Rogers’ mark of 17.25m/56-7.25 ranks him eighth on Arkansas’s all-time best list.

From the circle to the runway the Razorbacks didn’t miss a step as jumps duo Rubin Owens (triple jump) and Brandon Workman (long jump) placed in the top five of their respective events with personal best performances. Up first in the long jump, Workman sailed to a new PR of 7.44m/24-5 on his first attempt of the day. Following suit, Owens picked up a huge personal best in the triple jump of 15.39m/50-6 on his first time down the runway. Owens improved upon the mark on his second attempt finishing as the event runner-up with 15.44m/50-8.

The Razorbacks capped the day with a great effort by academic and athletic All-American Andrew Pisechko who placed second in the seeded 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:49.48.

Arkansas journeys West and Southwest next weekend for the Stanford Invitational and Texas Relays respectively.
