PRs Picked Up On Day One In Stanford
STANFORD, Calif. – Several members of the Arkansas women’s track and field team raced to PR performances on Friday afternoon at the Stanford Invitational in Stanford.
Razorback freshmen Abby Gray and Maddy Reed were the first to collect personal bests, finishing 14th and 17th, respectively, in section four of the 5,000-meter run. Gray completed the race in 16 minutes, 51.55 seconds while Reed soon followed in 17:08.78.
Fellow freshman Carina Viljoen continued the trend, placing second in section four of the 1,500 with a PR of 4:24.64.
Redshirt sophomore Sydney Brown and freshman Taylor Werner completed Arkansas’ day of personal bests as both runners earned outdoor PRs in the later sections of the 5,000. Brown took the track first, finishing 17th in section two with a time of 16:33.26. Werner was the final Razorback to run, placing 19th in the invitational section with 16:26.52.
“Considering our athletes are training through and ran on some very heavy legs, the results are start for the season and now we’ll just start moving forward,” head coach Lance Harter said. “Tomorrow, we’ll see how things go, remember that it’s a starting point and develop from there.”
The Razorbacks will close their weekend in Stanford tomorrow afternoon with middle distance squad of Alex Byrnes, Therese Haiss, Nikki Hiltz and Ceara Watson racing the 800 at 4:11 p.m. CT. Arkansas will also expect a strong showing from its pole vault crew including Desiree Freier, Lexi Weeks and Tori Weeks at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas.
