Razorbacks 13th After Day 1 at Valspar

PALM CITY, Fla. – The Arkansas men’s golf program shot an opening-round 291 and stands in 13th place at the 2019 Valspar Collegiate Invitational, played at The Floridian National Golf Club (par 71 – 7,114 yards).

The 15-team field features 14 of the nation’s top 35 teams with #8 Wake Forest, #30 Florida State and #31 South Carolina in a three-way tie for first after 18 holes (278), followed by #1 Oklahoma State (279) and #13 Auburn (281).

Leading the Razorbacks was William Buhl. The junior had five birdies, the fourth-best total, in the first round and is tied for 23rd after shooting an even-par 71. Buhl started his round with a bogey and was 2-over after six holes. However, he birdied the par-4, 11th hole as well as holes 15, 17, 18 and 1 to get to 2-under. Buhl dropped a shot on both holes 2 and 3 to finish with his even-par 71.

Tyson Reeder is tied for 30th after an opening-round, one-over-par 72. Reeder tied Auburn’s Trace Crowe for most pars on day one with 15. Reeder added two bogeys and a birdie.

Julian Perico is tied for 40th with a 73 Sunday. The freshman was 4-over after 11 holes but had birdies on holes 15 and 17 before reeling off four pars to end his round.

Wil Gibson and Luis Garza, playing as an individual, are tied for 62nd after carding a 75 in the opening round and Mason Overstreet is tied for 77th with an opening-round 80.

Round two of three will be contested on Monday with a final 18 holes set for Tuesday.
