Razorbacks Continue Fall Season At ITA All-American Championships

CARY, N.C. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team kicked off the ITA All-American Championships this past weekend with six players participating in the event. Sophomore Carolina Gomez is set to continue play in the Round of 16 of the singles main draw on Thursday while seniors Morgan Cross and Indianna Spink will compete in the doubles consolation draw tomorrow.

Gomez Alonso kicked off the singles main draw with a win today in the Round of 32, defeating No. 15 Jaedan Brown (Michigan) 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. She moves on to face No. 44 Casie Wooten (Wake Forest) tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. CT.

Senior Kelly Keller opened up play in the singles qualifying draw with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over No. 69 Shelly Bereznyak (Ohio State). Keller then dropped her next match on Tuesday, falling in straight sets to No. 32 Florencia Urrutia (Oklahoma).

Spink began the event in the singles prequalifying draw, dropping her first match to No. 104 DJ Bennett (Auburn) in straight sets on Saturday.

The duo of Cross and Spink automatically qualified for the doubles main draw and faced Virginia’s No. 46 Melodie Collard/Annabelle Xu in the Round of 32. Cross/Spink rebounded to win the second set after dropping the first set before eventually falling in the third set, 9-11.

The tandem of senior Lenka Stara and junior Grace O’Donnell started out the event in the doubles qualifying draw on Monday. Stara/O’Donnell bested Maryland’s No. 38 Selma Cadar/Mary Brumfield before falling in the next round to No. 59 Holly Staff/Valeria Ray (Vanderbilt).
