Razorbacks Conclude Successful Day at ITA Regionals

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team completed the second day of the ITA Central Region Championships with four Razorbacks advancing to the Round of 32 in singles while the senior duo of Morgan Cross and Indianna Spink earned their spot in the Round of 16 in the doubles draw.

Seven Hogs competed in the singles main draw today with Cross, Spink, senior Lenka Stara, and sophomore Anet Koskel all advancing to the Round of 32. Each of the four received a first-round bye and won their only match of the day in singles play.

Junior Grace O’Donnell kicked off the tournament with a straight-set win in the Round of 128, defeating Daniela Hlacikova (SE Missouri State). In the next round, O’Donnell faced top-seeded Anastasiya Komar from Oklahoma State, dropping the match in straight sets.

Sophomore Katie Ferguson and graduate Kacie Harvey both fell in their opening round matches of the singles main draw, sending them to the consolation draw. Ferguson picked up her first win of the event over Jill Lambrechts (SIUE) in straight sets. Harvey withdrew from her match due to injury.

In the doubles main draw, Cross and Spink clinched their spot in the Round of 16 after two impressive victories this morning. In their opening match, the duo cruised to an 8-3 win over SE Missouri State’s Lai/Calinescu. The seniors secured another victory in the Round of 32, advancing to play Pietrowicz/Loy (Nebraska) tomorrow.

Stara and O’Donnell started the day off with a narrow win, defeating Tinaztepe/Gati (Kansas City) 8-6. The tandem suffered a close defeat in the Round of 32, ending their run in the doubles main draw.

Ferguson and Koskel teamed up to compete in doubles play, although the duo would fall in the opening round to Arkansas State’s Brody/Humbert.

Cross/Spink will be back in action at 9:45 a.m. CT in the doubles main draw while singles play begins at 10:30 a.m. CT.
