Razorbacks Finish Out Day Two of SEC Tournament

AUBURN, Ala.- The University of Arkansas men’s tennis team wrapped up day two of the Southeastern Conference Fall Tournament at Auburn University. Senior William Albanese defeats N. 3 seed Joshua Wardell from Florida in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals of the “B” singles draw.

Albanese defeated N. 3 seed Joshua Wardell from Florida in three sets. In the first set, he lost 1-6, but rallied back and beat his opponent 6-3, 6-4. Albanese then played the N. 1 seed of the “B” singles draw and lost in two sets. He fell to Kris Lee of Vanderbilt, 6-2, 6-3.

Santiago Munoz and Jose Salazar competed in the “A” singles consolations and defeated their opponents in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals. Munoz defeated Ryan Smith of Vanderbilt, 6-1, 2-6, 6-4, but fell to Niclas Braun of Mississippi State in the semifinals. The final score was 6-4, 6-7, 6-3. Salazar advanced to the semifinals and defeated Gabriel Freidrich of South Carolina, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. Salazar will compete in the finals Sunday morning.

Jacob Herndon and doubles partner David Herrerias lost to the the N.2 seed of the “B” doubles draw, 8-4. Herndon/Herrerias played Freidrich and Andrew Schafer of South Carolina.

Juan Marino and Munoz also played in the “B” doubles draw and lost in the quarterfinals to Kris Yee and Vikram Charl of Vanderbilt, 8-6.

The finals are set for Sunday and the tournament features eight conference competitors, including Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.
