Razorbacks Finish Sixth at UCF Challenge
ORLANDO, Fla. – No. 7 Arkansas Women’s Golf notched a sixth place finish at the UCF Challenge, the first tournament of the spring season for the Razorbacks. The Hogs shot seven-over during the final round, moving them to six-over for the event (273-302-295—870).
Redshirt senior Brooke Matthews once again led the Hogs on the individual leaderboard, as her three-round 218 (+2) was good enough to give her a share of 14th place. Matthews has yet to finish outside the top-15 in an event this year, as she won the Blessings Collegiate Invitational, finished as the runner-up at the Ally at Old Waverly, while tallying an 11th place finish at the Liz Murphey Fall Collegiate Classic.
Freshman Miriam Ayora showed well in her first collegiate event, finishing tied for 19th after three rounds (69-73-77—219). Ayora is the first freshman to start her career with a top-20 finish since teammate Kajal Mistry did so last season at the Cougar Classic.
Third on the individual leaderboard for Head Coach Shauna Taylor’s Hogs was freshman Cory Lopez, who bounced back in round three, shooting a 2-over 74 in the final round. Lopez was one of just four players at the event to shoot one round at 66 or better. Her three-round 219 was good enough for a share of 31st place.
Sophomore Kajal Mistry shot a 77 in round three, bringing her three-day total to 228. That score was good for a share of 66th place.
Despite having her second round disqualified, sophomore Ela Anacona played some great golf in Orlando. She joined Cory Lopez atop the individual leaderboard after day one, when she shot a 66, and finished the event strong, firing a two-under 70 in round three. She now has five rounds below par this season, and nine such rounds in her career.
