Razorbacks in fifth after first round at MountainView Collegiate

The No. 9 Arkansas Razorbacks put together a solid opening round on Friday at the MountainView Collegiate with a 2-under 286 paced by Kajal Mistry’s 4-under 68 to sit in fifth after the opening day as a team.

Mistry did the majority of her damage on the front 9 of the MountainView Golf Club, carding four birdies to go along with a pair of bogeys and three pars. The junior was steady on the back 9 with a 2-under buoyed by seven pars.

Ela Anacona turned in a 72 as the team’s second-best score of the day. The junior played the front solidly with a birdie but a couple of bogies, including the ninth, left her at 1-over. Five straight pars on the back side of the course were followed by a birdie on 16 to get her back even before she finished off her round.

Julia Gregg carded a 73 on Friday rebounding from an up-and-down front 9 that saw her bogey two of the first six holes along with one birdie before righting the round with 11 straight pars for a 73. Cory Lopez’s 73 was similar but the sophomore had to birdie the ninth after a double bogey on seven before finishing even on the back with nine straight pars. Miriam Ayora made the turn at +2 but found trouble on the back side of the course, shooting 4-over to card a 78.

Arkansas tees it up on Saturday for the second round of the MountainView Collegiate.
