Razorbacks Take Down Baylor, 5-2

WACO, Texas – The University of Arkansas women’s tennis team opened up their road weekend with a 5-2 win over Baylor. The Razorbacks win their third straight match and improve to 5-1 this dual season.

Arkansas once again took an early lead by winning the doubles point for the fifth time this season. On court one, Indianna Spink and Morgan Cross got the momentum swinging early on with a 6-1 win over Baylor’s Paula Baranano and Daniella Tuhten. The duo improves to 5-1 this dual season, all at the No. 1 position. Baylor took court two with the doubles point coming down to court three where Kelly Keller and Carolina Gomez-Alonso defeated their opponents in a tiebreak 7-6 (5).

The Razorbacks were up for a battle headed into singles play with four of the six courts going into a deciding third set. Kacie Harvey extended the lead, winning in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, on court six over Danielle Tuhten, but Baylor fired back with a win on court four. Freshman No. 45 Carolina Gomez Alonso improves to 3-0 this spring, coming back to win her match 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Baylor made it competitive with a win on court two, making it 3-2 Arkansas looking for one more point. Senior No. 108  Kelly Keller once again delivered on court one. She defeated her opponent Alina Shcherbinina 7-5, 1-6, 6-4 to clinch the match win for the Razorbacks.

Arkansas is back on the courts Sunday, Feb. 19 as they take on the SMU Mustangs in Dallas at 11 a.m. CT.
