HUMBLE, TEXAS – The Arkansas men’s golf team opened play at the All-American Intercollegiate on Friday with a team score of 300 at the par 72 Golf Club of Houston to sit in a tie for ninth place in the field of 16 teams.

On a day where only one team finished under par, the Razorbacks (+12) find themselves a shot behind eighth place Troy (+11) one stroke clear of 11th place Houston Baptist. Host Houston was the lone team under par in the opening round, finishing at 10-under for an 11-shot lead on the field. South Carolina is second (+1), followed by UTSA (+5) and SMU (+5).

Taylor Moore and Nicolas Echavarria tied for the low round of the day for Arkansas, sitting tied for 18th place overall with rounds of one-over 73.

Moore shot three-over on the front nine, but rallied with back-to-back birdies on 12 and 13 and finished two-under on the back nine for a flawless side. Echavarria found himself two-over through the first three holes, but bounced back with under-par golf the rest of the way, including three birdies to finish with a one-over 73.

The front nine struggles were the same for Alvaro Ortiz who went out with a plus-five 41, but he rebounded with three birdies over the final seven holes to shoot one-under on the back and plus-four overall.

Kolton Crawford and Charles Kim rounded out the team, both shooting six-over 78 to sit tied for 59th overall. Kim tallied a birdie on each side and shot one-over on the front nine, while Crawford shot two-over on the back side with seven pars and two bogies.

Teams will tee off No. 1 and No. 10 Friday and Saturday at 9 a.m., followed by an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start Sunday morning for the final round. Live scoring will be available on BirdieFire.com by clicking here.
