Spink, Doubles In Quarterfinals At ITA Regionals
LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team continued play today at the ITA Central Region Championships as seniors Morgan Cross and Indianna Spink reached the Quarterfinals in doubles while Spink advanced to the Quarterfinals in singles.
The Razorback duo of Cross and Spink matched up against Nebraska’s Pietrowicz/Loy in the Round of 16 after picking up two wins on Friday. The tandem continued their dominance in the doubles draw, claiming an 8-3 victory this morning. With the win, Cross/Spink clinched their spot in the Quarterfinals and will face Lacasse/Adrover Gallego (Nebraska) with a spot in the Semifinals at stake.
Spink followed up her doubles win with two more strong performances in singles, helping her advance to the Quarterfinals of the main draw. In her first match, Spink defeated Belluomini (Minnesota) in straight sets. Spink dropped the opening set in her Round of 16 match, but fought back to take the next two sets, winning 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.
Cross faced off against Nahurska (Tulsa) today in the Round of 32. Cross took the first set before falling in the next two sets, ending her run in the main draw. Senior Lenka Stara and sophomore Anet Koskel both dropped their Round of 32 matches in straight sets.
After her victory in her first consolation match, Ferguson advanced to face Dalecka (Northern Iowa) in the Round of 16, dropping the match in a three-set thriller.
Cross/Spink will be back in action at 10 a.m. CT while Spink will take the court for her Quarterfinal match at 1 p.m. CT tomorrow.
