Taylor Signs José Marin on National Signing Day

FAYETTEVILLE – Maria José Marin has signed her National Letter of Intent with the Arkansas women’s golf team on the 2022 National Signing Day, as announced by head coach Shauna Taylor. José Marin, who hails from Cali, Colombia, is ranked No. 64 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, as well as No. 22 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings.

“Maria comes to the University of Arkansas with a very decorated junior and amateur golf resume,” said Taylor. “She has competed all over the world and has a complete game. She is one of the hardest working junior golfers I have ever met, and it shows when she competes. She leaves no stone unturned in her preparation and she loves to win.”

José Marin has racked up the accolades in the junior golf ranks. At the 2022 USGA Girls Junior Championship, José Marin was a semifinalist, which is a big feat in the junior golf world. Also this past year, José Marin won the XII Juegos Suramericanos Paraguay, a tournament she played at with professionals from 15 different countries, as well as the Columbian Open and the Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship in Miami. José Marin was the runner-up in the inaugural Women’s Amateur Latin America Championship in 2021 and the World Junior Girls Championship this past October.

“Maria understands her strengths and is lasered-focused on executing a plan that plays to her strengths in every round she plays,” adds Taylor. “She will bring an intensity to what we do, and I look forward to helping Maria on her journey to the U.S. to play collegiate golf.”

José Marin has been honored as the best sportswoman in her club for the past seven consecutive years. She is also a player on the Olympic Columbian Committee. José Marin shares her favorite golf experience was winning the one and only spot in an 11-player playoff at the 2022 North and South Amateur.

José Marin plans to study accounting at Arkansas. Her parents are Lorena Negrete and Jose Marin, and she has a 7-year-old brother named Emilio.
