Women's Tennis Concludes Opening Day of ITA Central Region Championships

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team finished the opening day of the ITA Central Region Championships with sophomore Morgan McCarthy as the only player in action today.

McCarthy began the event in the singles qualifying draw, facing off against Anastassiya Timofeyeva (Kansas City) in the Round of 128. McCarthy won the first set and narrowly fell in the second set. She dropped the decisive third set, 8-10, sending her to the consolation draw. In her Round of 64 consolation match, McCarthy was defeated by Selena Bird (South Dakota) in straight sets, ending her run in the singles draw.

The Razorbacks will have seven players in action tomorrow in both singles and doubles. Grace O’Donnell, Katie Ferguson, and Kacie Harvey will start the tournament in the Round of 128 of the singles main draw. Lenka Stara, Indianna Spink, Anet Koskel, and Morgan Cross all received byes into the Round of 64. The doubles teams for the Hogs consist of Stara/O’Donnell, Ferguson/Koskel, and Cross/Spink. Each pair will begin play in the Round of 64 of the doubles main draw, beginning at 9 a.m. CT.
